Mining Application Technology

Surface mining machines are some of the most rugged machines on the planet, required to navigate mining sites where mere dirt berms may separate one from potential disaster.  An industry like this demands a durable safety system like PreView™ that can handle inclement weather, temperature extremes, dust and dirt, and constant vibrations.  That's why PreView™ features a robust design that includes an encapsulated circuitry and ruggedized harnesses to handle the rigors of the mining environment.

Pulse radar system

PreView™ utilizes a pulse radar technology to detect moving and stationary objects in zones obscured from the operator's view.  Why pulse radar?  Because some systems, like ultrasonic infrared and video, rely on ideal environmental conditions to function properly, while others, like Doppler radar, only detect moving objects.  Pulse radar technology detects both stationary and moving objects in virtually all environmental conditions.  When safety is a priority, making sure your safety system works is vital.

User-Friendly "Networkable" Display

The PreView™ in-cab display was designed to maximize its effectiveness in the cab environment.  The display features a group of lights and an audible alert to provide the operator with notification of an object's relative distance.  The closer the vehicle gets to an object, the more L.E.D. lights will illuminate and the audible warning output will increase in frequency.  Displays in the Xtreme version of PreView™ can network multiple sensors at one time.  This allows for custom configurations of one or multiple displays inside the cab.  For instance, a typical application may mount one display to communicate with the sensors on the left side of a shovel and one display to communicate with sensors on the right.

Other PreView™ Technology Highlights

  • Durability - Tested to comply with the SAE 1455 environmental specification.

  • Simplicity - Contains only three basic component: sensors, in-cab displays, and the cable that connects them.

  • Flexibility - Easily integrates with other safety systems such as cameras, reverse alarms and reversing lights.  And, with custom cable lengths, sensors can be placed at many points around the vehicle for overlapping coverage.

  • Customizability - The Xtreme sensor can detect objects up to 32 feet from the sending unit, and can be modified to detect custom ranges within that distance.

  • Usability - In-cab display offers three audible settings to meet in-cab noise level requirements, and the L.E.D.s are easily visible night and day.
