Blind Spot Safety
TechnologyPreco’s patented pulsed-time-domain radar technology makes the PreView™ Blind Spot Safety Systems possible. This technology detects stationary as well as moving objects in a desired coverage area up to 26 feet (8M) from the sensor. The PreView™ radar sensor looks for an echo of a regularly transmitted, small, energy pulse. Microwave frequencies are used because almost everything in nature reflects a significant portion of the electromagnetic energy striking it. The highest reflectivity is metal, then other materials such as wood, foliage, and rubber will reflect energy as well. The PreView™ system detects objects when energy is reflected back. Larger metallic objects reflect more energy than smaller porous objects and flat, perpendicular objects reflect more energy than rounded objects. The PreView™ sensor detection zone is primarily triangular shaped, fanning outward from the sensor. The PreView™ System has advantages over other collision warning technologies such as ultrasonic and Doppler radar. For example, doppler radar requires movement to detect objects, and ultrasonic systems have difficulty operating in adverse conditions and detecting over longer distances. The PreView™ external sensor is IP67-Rated for environmental durability. This design provides resistance to moisture, dust, vibration, heat, cold, sun glare, snow, ice, high wind, darkness, water, and mud. In fact, the system is designed to operate at temperature extremes, from -40°C to +85°C. Encapsulating the sensors with a urethane material adds resistance to high vibration and high pressure washing applications. The PreView™ in-cab display provides two sensory notifications to the operator. A group of lights and an audible alert provide the operator with notification of an objects relative distance. As the vehicle closes in on the object, more lights activate and the audible alert will increase from slow to fast beeping. |
